Every silver lining has a dark cloud behind it

As everybody surely knows by now
Every silver lining has a dark cloud behind it,
Though optimistic fools try to hide the truth
There is no way that they can deny it.

For the truth is everywhere to see
It's not so difficult to find it,
That every forlorn dream of hope
Has a dark cloud behind it.

Though ‘experts' have tried to bend the truth
Or at least tried to redefine it,
They cannot conceal the truth that every wish
Has a dark cloud close behind it.

As bad luck oozes out into our lives
We try so desperately to confine it,
But every last hope or dream
Has a dark cloud right behind it.

Fools speak of the great country we live in
To the sad truth, they have been blinded,
That for all but the richest of the rich
Every silver lining has a dark cloud behind it.

The losers who populate this once lucky land
Do not even seem to mind it,
In Australia every wish and chance
Has a dark cloud lurking behind it.

So as we journey down life's winding road
It's overdue for someone to remind us,
That every chance, every yearning, every dream
Has a dark cloud just behind it.

THE END
