Tomorrow's Way

Home at last in wife’s tender arms,
I scan the future with mild alarms.
Around the corner is separation and pain,
But in my heart sweetness where love has lain.

A sweet song sung today,
Paints the pleasures of tomorrow’s way.
A casual word now dropped or spoken,
Leaves a trail of fondness never broken.

The mellow thoughts that trail through m y brain,
Softens the strike, mellows the pain.
Tomorrow brings the awakening,
A sorrowful hard awakening.

Yet tomorrow rides on yesterday,
And the way it comes a pleasant way.
For tomorrow I will remember today,
And in this bliss forge my way
And in this bliss be back someday.
