Backed Up

J.Y. 1992 (Michigan)

Backed up

The experience of time is like the palette of any person
From having an abundance so great you run out of ways to spend it
To having morsels of it, not enough to share even with yourself
Sure, this has been said time and time again
By the adults caught in the deficit
Graphs, I feel should be used to convey
How precious it is, like a resource
That you lose when you use
How important it is, when it is gone it is gone
Like your teens, welcome to the other side
Of life that changes violently
We do more and can do less
All those things, little as they were that bought you a sense of joy
A sense of uniqueness, now diminished by optional demands
That drain your time and energy bank and leaves you with desires
To indulge in those old dusted hobbies
To catch up on the writings of people both dead and alive
To break the plastic material trying to fireball that COM
To cut veins of your heart and pour the blood onto a piece of paper in a purple checkered journal
DTE doesn’t accept your Platinum trophy for payment
Rent isn’t fulfilled by completing another novel in that series you are obsessed with
Poems, musings and shorts stories don’t sway the hearts of your lenders
So you reduce, all the time you spend being greedy
Starving yourself of the things you enjoy
Verily, substitutions come and fit in place
In that place, it yields new kinds of rewards
It is not a dismissal of that in any way
Claws that scratch the chalkboard slowly in horror movies
Slow handling of Styrofoam with bare hands
You hear the question with painstaking clarity
When you will find the time…..to get caught up?
