Who am I?

Who am I
what am I

We talk of unity, the spirit of Ubuntu yet I am a foreigner because I am light
I am an outcast because of the texture of my hair
I am called boss because my skin colour is light

I am labled coloured
Taunted by names like curry muncher
Leaders, poets, musicians speak of African culture and diversity
Why is Africa defined as black?

The soil that my feet first touched was African
The air that filled my lungs with my first breath was African

My heart beats in rhythm to the sound of isgubhu
The smell of rainfall on an African plain is euphoric to me
The satisfied feeling after a dish of sadza, nyama ne ma veg is second to none
Africa lives within me
Africa is me

I am African!
