Alzheimer's

Royston 1946 (Reading)

This is no way to live my life my dear,
for I am so muddled and full of fear.
Who is this person that's living with me?
I cannot remember who I should be!

My memories keep fading in and out
and I don't know what you're talking about.
Is my mum still alive? Cos I don't know
and I'm confused by the places that we go.

The days are so long and I feel so sad
and I did not know life could be this bad.
The day and night seems to merge into one
and I forget the things that I have just done.

But there are things to which I can relate
and "Singing for the Brain" makes me feel great.
People smiling as I cuddle my toy
these are some of things that I still enjoy.

Reflections on the way that Alzheimer’s had affected some of my friends and family.
