My best friend, loneliness

Loneliness is my best friend
for when loneliness is around
I don't have to wipe the tears
I don't have to force a smile,
I don't have to fake my joy
and I don't have to hold it back.
 
So at night, when I am starring at the stars,
the light they shine, despite the darkness,
though they give me hope, they can't take away the sorrow, they can't stop the tears,
the hidden emotions crawling back
but I feel the presence of my best friend like the warmth of an old cardigan
for as long as loneliness is my best friend, I don't need the stars to get through the night
I need myself
