Waiting

All the Gods of womb and tomb
watch the scenes unfold today.
Even the most ancient ones,
who never found a tongue that could intone their names,
watch breathless through a smoky mirror
at the reflections of their anxiety over
our witless persecution of our fellow Man.

El, God of Sky, and bringer of rain and thunder
pensively sits, poised to deliver acid and radiation.

Gaia, Mother's womb, who's field's now poisoned
destroy the very bee that spread her pollens,
can do nothing but accept the lead and PCB's
into her dying flesh.

Hades, God of the ocean deep,
weeps unseen tears as his waters drown
in plastic and mercury.

Mercury too, that messenger of the Gods,
and healer of all high and low,
cringes at the acts of Man that hold back his healing balm.

Man, seems to notice not,
yet he too is pensive,
his anxiety boils over into bombs of war and petty squabbles.

Where is the divine intervention,
that internal drive derived from holy inspiration
that will change the hearts of those who seek destruction?

Hecate, witch, Goddess of the crossroads, stands ready
waiting for the light to change.
