Fear the night

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

Fear the horror of the night
Fear the darkness lurking round you,
Fear the shadows creeping closer
Unnamed terrors have surely found you.

In the dark and steamy night
Evil swirling round your face,
Visions?  Nightmares?  Creatures?
Beings not of the human race.

Fear the mist swirling nearby
Leviathans are lumbering forth,
Dark shadows forcing warriors
To cruelly die to prove their worth.

Unseen beings shrilly shrieking
In a dark and horrid night,
Winged monsters search dark alleyways
Then seeing movement take to flight.

Fearsome shapes lingering near
Hidden from their intended prey,
Hunting human food at night
Slinking off at break of day.

Unspeakable terrors lurking near
Stalking folks who go out late,
Followed by malignant fiends
Unaware of their impending fate.

Smitten lovers walk hand in hand
Unwary of crouching carnivores,
Creeping after bedazzled lovers
Soon to die in death's foul jaws.
