With Tanks, Tiananmen Square

A good word fell upon an equal ear,
Unhindered to impinge upon its hosts’ fear,
Aided by an able mouth, not so unkind,
An end, to deliver ...to all mankind.
A word, of as simple in origin
To all those fated, or in a similar religion.
A purpose to commend, at a distance,
The word that defies all resistance.
Thanks, he said at last aloud.
But failing a response from a hostile crowd,
Again he repeated as if at first unheard,
Or merely overwhelmed by the magnitude of the word.
The indifference exposed to his respite,
Was rewarded in days, and their subsequent nights.
