Twilight Garden

My heart's a twilight garden
where shadows skulk and writhe
and tender buds are scattered
'neath murky, starless skies.
A travesty once lovely,
in innocence and mirth,
lies wasted in love's valley
and to sorrows given birth.
But wait, I see a glimmer
beyond the blackened veil.
A  penetrating vista
above my somber swale.
A light, though dim,
is  there, above,
set in large eyes of brown.
My arms reach up to grasp
and there, at last,
my sorrows drown.

I've been writing poetry since my school days, hopefully I have become more introspective and better at expressing myself now that I am in my 60's. Life teaches so many lessons. more…
