State of the nation address – 2020

We, the People, stood attentively tall and proud
As the distinguished leader addressed the nation,
Appeasing the enthused and well-inspired crowd
Just released from unwarranted political intrusion.

Insinuating displeasure for the perceived miscreant
A legislator, staging her ire, and with a gesture so vile,
Blatantly ripped the scroll of records, in a stance defiant,
Where people with lesser stature would have merited exile.

She ripped what she saw was a well thought out plan to protect
The boundaries that allow safe harbor from dangers unknown;
 Signaling that diplomacy has its limits-- ample measures project,
 Banning unwarranted entry wherever suspect carriers have flown.

She ripped what she saw documented a gesture so humane,
 As  a fallen soldier's last act of patriotism in the distant past
 Where brotherly love permeated the battlefields – God's domain;
 A final gesture from grateful America, giving his family closure at last.

She ripped what she saw was valor acknowledged in unsteady times;
Race or creed was not an issue – it is not what martyrdom was about.
Warriors unquestioning, marched forward over unspeakable inclines.
Inequality was endured, where hopelessness reigned from without.

She ripped what she saw was declaration of strong family values
 Remaining intact even in the bleakest circumstances, continents apart;
 An embodiment of trust and loyalty, a bond so strong it continues,
Surpassing the purest intentions where love shines from the heart.

She ripped what she saw was proclamation of hope, and power of faith
Where dreams of the young, inspired by those who somehow tried
To find peace of mind,  allowed an offspring her own aspirations recreate;
Assured herself that reluctance to emerge triumphant is one obstacle defied.

She ripped what she saw was a record of faithful championing of Truth,
Of calling the grim events as they are, not offering discounted views,
 A man whose patriotism offers lessons from what historians wrote
Refusing distorted accounting of events, just to propagate “news”.
