My Childhood Within

I’ll never leave my childhood.
I think it’s much too fun.
I’ll ride my bike, play with my friends,
before the day is done.

All know that I’m responsible.
I do my job with pride.
But when my work is over,
I like to play outside.

I also volunteer my time,
Because I really care.
I learned this from my mom and dad;
to not ignore despair.

I’ll smell the flowers; breathe the air.
I’ll notice nature’s grace.
I’ll ignore those as old as me,
who think I’m a disgrace

I’ll still run to the ice cream truck.
I need the exercise.
I’ll even track down old-time stuff;
just like my mother’s pies..

I’ll jump into the fallen leaves
and scream with smiles and joy.
I like the things I liked back when
I was a little boy.

I’ll hope on every snowfall day
to sled on every hill,
then come inside for hot cocoa
to help take off the chill.

And when the summer rolls around
and it’s no longer cool,
I’ll set a sprinkler in the back.
Some say that I’m a fool.

But having fun on my free time
is something I desire.
I know how I will fill my days
when it’s time to retire.

So I would ask, you look inside.
I’m sure there’s something fine.
It just might be a childhood smile;
I hope as good as mine.
