Relief Not Grief

The day he died, I didn't cry,
but sighed in great relief.
"I'm sorry," people said to me,
but I  didn't  feel any grief.
I couldn't  wait to go home and erase
all the traces of our life.
To fill up the trash with memories,
to forget I was his wife.
"Don't  you miss him?"  people asked,
"Aren't  you lonely and sad?"
Miss the punches, slaps and threats,
I'll  never miss what I had.
No one knew that there were tears
behind my eyes to be found.
Or that the smile upon my face,
was really upside down.
