Wounded

Can you be wounded but not really hurt
When it’s your pride that stings
Or your sense of worth.
When you can no longer sleep on your back
And everyone acts like you had a heart attack
It makes you wonder what it’s like
For people when disabilities strike
Is it the wound that gives pain
Or when things will never be the same again
Is it that pitiful look in peoples eye
That makes one wish to die
I can never walk in their shoes
But this moment I can use
To realise no one wants pity
But if you must, show some dignity
