Let It Start With Us

Hailey 2007

Black, white, green, yellow, blue. What does it matter? Do you have a heart? Do you have a brain? Do you have blood flowing through your veins? You have an opinion. You have hobbies. You have things you like to do. You have a voice, so use it. Stop using violence and social media to get your voice to be heard. It doesn't work. I'm tired of hearing some kids got in a fist fight with such and such because some kid used this racial slur. I remember when "race" meant a running competition to see who could run the fastest, but now it's something to run from. I'm done being picked on for having a black friend and them getting picked on for having a white friend. Can we please just start looking at each other as a heart. As a brain. As a physical human being. I am sick, and I mean sick and tired of everyone being treated differently because of skin color. And I know it happens everywhere, but we have to put a stop to it somehow. So why not start with the future. We are the future. If we change things, things can and will get better. If we stay true to this, and not teach our future children about racism, then "race" can finally go back to meaning a running test. Let it start here. Let it start with the future. Let it start with us.
