Water

The way that the waves perform their ancient yet newborn dance of pulsing power, controlled only by itself, is as terrifying as any other monster.
The loons and gulls know better than any as to the soul of the lakes, swelling and breathing, alive despite us.
It is comfortingly terrible, knowing that every drop of our lifeblood, the liquid that feeds us, will one day return to the powerful shores, a contract created at our birth and signed by the current's hand.
That although we pass, the water, living as its own, will keep us with it,
