Our Truth

Today was the day my dad and I talked.
I don't ever want to forget this day.
I've been waiting for it for over 20years.
To finally know the truth.
His truth.

And he told me.
And I told him.

And he heard me; for what felt like the first time he's ever heard me, because at that moment we both knew it was out in the open and off our chests. I could feel all that pain he's had to hold in all these years and all my pain all at once.
I immediately felt like everything was okay now.
I don't know how to explain this feeling, but I felt all the good memories we had together when I was a little girl come flooding back in all at once.
I cried hard because of how badly I wish we could have had this all these years.

I cried hard because of how sick and evil a person would have to be to do this to a father and his daughter. An innocent little girl. How any mother or grandmother could ever do that to their own family.

I have always loved my dad and known the truth in my heart.

Today was the day my dad and I talked.
I will never forget this day.
I waited over 20years.
And now I finally know the truth.
My truth.
