I Hate My Dreams

Jasmin Jay 2004 (Riverside California)

as a child, I loved to dream...

all the fantasies and fairies would fill my head
and I would have the most amazing adventures...

every night when I put my head down to sleep I would pray...

pray to be brought to wonderland
or perhaps go on adventures with peter pan
and maybe be sorted into my favorite Hogwarts house

and the next day
I would wake up
and let my imagination use the dreams from the night before
to create worlds of my own...

but...
as I've gotten older
I've started to despise the dreams that I once held so dear

as I dream and wake
my head is filled with half-finished thoughts...

instead of adventures and fantasies
I only get a muddled head
that leaves me feeling as though I've forgotten something

those dreams that I once loved now leave me confused, unfocused, and upset
it makes me angry...
why would the dreams that I so used to love...
give me such a headache

why would they leave me feeling clustered in the morning
forgetful in the afternoon
and dreadful at night?
