2021/03/18 ~ Dear Aunt Shannon

Dear Aunt Shannon,
You left us just this morn.
Just found out you're gone,
I don't know how, for you, to mourn.

Dear Aunt Shannon, I'm sure you're fine.
Did you know He was calling you home?
Did you ask to say your last goodbyes?
Were you in the hospital all alone?

Dear Aunt Shannon, I knew one side of you,
Didn't get to know the other.
Is what I knew true?
That question lingers forever.

Dear Aunt Shannon, the sky pours tears I long to weep.
The clouds cradle you in their arms.
Forever in peace, I pray you sleep
As now, you'll not come to any harm.

Dear Aunt Shannon, you may be in a better place,
But you left a damned hole down here.
I hope to ne'er forget your face,
Not even in a hundred years.

Dear Aunt Shannon, you were a friend from the first we met.
Several short months were all we had.
I guess we never know what time's left
Before we pass on and make those behind sad.

Dear Aunt Shannon, you're in the arms of the angels now,
I guess they needed you more than we.
Three weeks in a coma, it's  probably best anyhow
Now that you're surrounded by eternal beauty.

Dear Aunt Shannon, in the next life, I'm sure it'll be better.
Walk them streets of gold,
Admire them pearly gates forever
In a Land where you'll never grow old.

Dear Aunt Shannon, Death's grip is cruel and hard,
Taking whomever he pleases.
Maybe Heaven will be your childhood yard
Where you can run 'til you see Jesus.

Dear Aunt Shannon, tell Jesus hello for me, will you?
Watch over Uncle Paul until he meets you there.
I can't believe you're gone, yet it's true.
Will you watch over all of us down here?

Dear Aunt Shannon, maybe you'll be a star in the sky tonight
Twinkling down from Heaven on high.
Your light, I'm sure will shine so bright
As we, in sleep this night will lie.
