Woman To Woman

Mom, I once wished you had said,
"Babies bring stretch marks and widen your feet."
Yet, I would not have known how far I could walk
or how long I could reach.

You could have told me that love means compromising hair appointments,
red king crabs and satin sheets.

How would I had known that nappy hair could make me stronger,
and chili beans could last so much longer?

When I wonder why you didn't tell me the truth,
I glance at Joshua, Marcus and Jordan
and know that every minute was worth the questions, the wait,
the pain that I would endure in life each day.

Dynisha Cole

I grew up as a young girl, living in ghettos in Mississippi with great expectations. I enjoyed Classical Music and I had an appreciation for many things that were not common in my house or neighborhood. I joined the Army National Guard at the age of seventeen and served for eight years while in school. I obtained a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Southern Mississippi with the hopes to become an oral surgeon, but writing has always been my passion. Although I have been writing since I was very young, most of my current themes reflect a great change that happened in my life in February 2005. When I hit rock bottom after moving from Chandler, Arizona, Jesus Christ saved my soul and gave me a new hope. Because of the different geographical regions I've lived in, and the cultural differences I was exposed to, I can relate to many types of people. Out of all of the experiences, any achievements and abilities I may seem to have, I offer and owe all the glory to Him, my inspiration. Now I live in a small town, I have a husband and three busy boys that keep me laughing and praying. I am continually encouraged by the love of my church family at Dunn's Memorial in Austin TX. I have a mother, father, step mother, sisters, a brother, aunts, and uncles and friends that I pray my life will be an encouragement to. more…
