Wishes

The greatest joys of life
Happen to the new born
And the old near death.

This is when the warmth
Of fire is enjoyed the most
Joy of being held close

When the cooling of skin
In the cold air, winter
Ache from past loves.

Needs of the flesh and soul
Come shocking awake
New and remembered times

Which builds meaning
For the expression
“If I had it to do again.”

In the language of the young
“If I were older, I would”
Wishes common to all men.
