Winter Wedding

The golden moon hangs low
Our footprints mark the freshly fallen snow.
A rabbit hops from the forest edge,
Startling us as we make our way from hedge to hedge,
Stringing colored Christmas lights
That will compete with the stars at night.
I see that twinkle in your eyes
So the cold running down my back is no surprise.
I shake out the snow and remember,
Our wedding day many years ago in December
When you teased me and threatened to throw
Me into the the heaps of powdered snow.
I remember the storm that almost cancelled our honeymoon.
Was it really forty two years ago since you were a groom
And I was a bride trying to shake out the snow that some clown
Had shoved down my wedding gown?
