Winter Sky

You are veiled in gray, wearing white and strings of pearls.
You are like a sapphire in a setting of platinum and diamonds.
You are a marble and tile floor covered by ladies in white dancing and swaying to a gentle waltz.
You are the gold setting to the ruby as evening becomes dusk.
You are the black hair decorated with moon flowers.
Alas, you are now covered with a shawl in the cold night breeze.

How many artists have captured your beauty?
On film? On canvas? On painted vases? On cloth? In prose?
You’re immeasurable, timeless.
To see you brings back fond memories of times past.
Some days you are camouflaged in white like the earth.
Other days you are giving false hope of spring and summer warmth.
Still there is no other like you.
