Why Can't I Let Go

Like a favorite sweater that doesn't fit
Like my Big girl book, with the words I couldn't quite get
Like my favorite bed when I was a child
or like those flowers I got that were running wild.
Why can't I let go of you? Though my mind knows it's too
small and it won't fit and though I am young, those words I
think I can get. That bed is too little, yet I long to lay
upon it and though I'm allergic to wild flowers, I still
can't acquit myself of loving them...of wanting them.
They bring me comfort, like that old sweater, like that
book, like a lasting glance or a loving look.
Why can't I let go of you? I know you're no good for me,
yet I struggle to hold on reeling from the pain it's
caused, but the tie is much to strong for me to just
release it...you. Time is running out...
Time is running out and I must make a choice.
I know I said what I meant, but I didn't mean what I said -
but like that childhood bed - you gotta go.
So, why can't I let you go?
I don't know....I just can't....yet.
