Where Art thou dodo?

Long lost dodo
True or myth,
Let us now
Through history sift.
Surviving in
Our centuries past,
Your existence not
Allowed to last.
With innocence bold
You greeted man,
A welcome to
His survival plan.
Settlers sailors
All who came,
Treated you
As easy game.
Slow and friendly
No fear at call,
An easy prey
For one and all.
One by one and
Score by score,
Until your kind
Was seen no more.
As dead as a dodo
I've heard them say,
But your story's alive
And it's here to stay.
On beautiful islands
In an ocean tranquil,
If you wasn't discovered
You'd prosper there still.
Where are you dodo
Are you still there,
Or doesn't anybody
Really care.
There's perhaps a place
On earth somewhere,
Where you've survived
"Live happy there".
