When It Quits Hurtin"

When I was young and skinned my knee,
My grandpa'd try to comfort me.
He'd lift me up into his arms,
To tickle away life's little harms.
And I would laugh as he would say,
"You're gonna feel better when that's okay,
The one thing in this world that is always certain,
Is you'll feel better when this quits hurtin'"
Now, I am older, and wounds run deep.
There's no Pa Deal around now when I weep.
I long for arms to surround me now,
And someone else to tell me how,
I'm gonna feel better when it's okay.
All I know now is it's not today.
I only wish I could be certain.
That I'd feel better and stop this hurtin'.
