Walls

In life we build walls
To protect us from harm
But sometimes we slip and let someone come in
And we let down our guard, our arm
I didn’t think I’d go there again
I thought I’d learned that lesson twice before
But you have proven me wrong
And now I must board up the door
I thought I built a solid wall
Not seeing the access you gained
But there won’t be a key this time
For I will not be in pain
The walls are sturdy, they will not fall
No doors, no keys to get in
That is the way it will have to be
Me, by myself again
No one else can be trusted
And I am too old for these games
For I hurt too much inside
And I have nothing to gain
