Upon a grassy knoll

Haven high upon a grassy knoll
Sprawled amid the twilight blades
Here I lay, a jaded prophet
Of this deliberate modern age?

Captured by her cosmic beauty
Apprehensions from another life
Suddenly, they all begin to fade to far, far away!
Then the wind, in whispering resolutions
Sends her wisdom in messages of presages

To warn me of the conundrums
That resides below this hillock
Ascending towards me
Once again I shall embrace

The city lights dazzling
Dances in the distance beneath
All pastel notions they endeavor to erase

This hummock
My sanctuary from a teenage world
Bombarded with lofty ideals
So young and struggling to face

Here among this splendor vastness
Her majesty the cosmos I am free to be
To exist with guises undone
My performance here
The stars in the heavens among
They twinkle applause and are completely transfixed
And I take my bow

Once again onto supple frays
I lay among the dews
My being to be here
And to be aroused by
Life still wanting to confuse

Wavering thoughts before my return
Escaping upward to my Eternal Father
From which patience and humbleness I must learn

Again I am lost
Among the glorious grandeurs of autumn breezes
That hide here
In this tranquil special place
Knowing out there
Are others quandaries to abate

And I ponder of a young woman’s futures
And that of her fates
As I gaze to the skies
That maybe one day
I’ll come here with someone I love, a husband?
But Lord, please do not reveal all
Leave something that will surprise

Nighttiger

A fortyish native born all American man. Married twice and for the last time. I have four children; Three daughters and one son that are all over the age of eighteen. I also have two grandchildren; one three years old and one nine months old. Inspired by God, tragedy, life's experiences and then a fairy tale love. I never intentionally set out to write poetry, but "She" inspired me. "She" meaning the love of my life. That love is a passion that after thirteen years still grows stronger each and every day. It eventually had to be put into writing. As I wrote poetry to her, she encouraged me to approach other subjects. Doing so brought me to discover that poetry could wash away the bitter tastes of life (suicide, cancer, and divorce) that were still living like demons inside me. So when poetic therapy brought those impish fiends to a stalemate, I began to experiment more. Creating fictional characters and situations within my works. The support of this online community has inspired me even further to continue to hone my writing skills giving the readers the best that I can offer. Thanks to all you out there in Lulu land. more…
