Unexpected

Friend request
The name took away
My breath
From school girl days
Put to rest
In so many ways
But heart and mind
In a dither
Both began to quiver
What could this be
Would it be cheating
To accept?
Yes in so many ways
It would.
Even knowing
There was nothing
To come from a simple
Attempt to say hello
Before death swept
The opportunity
Away forever.
Death the arbitrator
Steps forward from shadows
Inserting itself in the matter
As if death was wise or
Perhaps comprised of
Co-conspirators who devise
These meetings before
All is lost.
At what cost, what expense
Would be suffered if death's
Warning received an argument
From me.
Life is full of premonitions
These days
A harbinger may
Be one that is not his
But meant to bet mine.
So now the decision
Is parked between
Death and divine
Tarry, turn it over
The clock can't go
Back in time.
