Treasure Box

I opened up a treasure box
And found there locked within,
Were cries of contentment
And a hint of a little pain.

Upon the top a forest grew
And a chasm ran between
I opened it to peer inside
This landscape so pristine

I dug inside to taste the spoils
But found to my surprise
The more I dug the more I felt
An urge to galvanize.

Inside the box grew moist then wet
Then it began to shake
What is it that lies within the rift
That I did here awake?

I dug till I no longer could
Then I was chafe and sore
But not before a cloudy stream
Rushed through the crevice door.

The digging stops, exploring ends
Exhaustion has set in.
Next time I’ll too investigate
The double peaks akin.

For now, I’ll put the box away
Until the need arrives
To explore its innermost parts again
To the origin of the cries.
