To Strike This Soul

In the dawn's dance I stand alone,
close to life but as grave as stone,
soft voices catch the early wing
while silence here displays its sting,
cold isolation steers welcome
as these eyes survey the chasm;

vast sways of sorrow wave to fear,
and love becomes a sharpened spear -
it twists within a violent dream
as I step forward with a scream
that rips the horror from my face
with perfect ease and subtle grace,
the spirit within is scattered
as I fall; battered and tattered -

but the crash does not destroy me,
I find instead that I am free
to soar across the mind's wild sky
with feathers from a lonely sigh,
such a journey into the now
has shaped me fine and taught me how
to flutter words; divine or dark,
to strike this soul - create a spark.
