They say, I say

They say I'm not long for this world,
I say lets have some fun,
They say stop being reckless,
I say I've just begun,
They say respect your elders,
I say respect the young,

They say listen to reason,
I say that song's been sung,

They say you should respect us,
I say respect should be earned,

They say we were the teachers,
I say that they never learned,

They say we fought for our country,
I say we fought for our life,

They say you should get married,
I say who needs a wife,

They say that I am ignorant,
I say that I am brash,

They say I am a parasite,
I say I need more cash,

They say don't hang with this crowd,
I say it's where I belong,

They say we don't like your music,
I say that it's just a song,

They say I look aggressive,
I say I think I look great,

They say labels are stupid,
I say that they're out of date,

They say my hairs too short,
I say it's grown out too much,

They say don't wear an earring,
I say it says don't touch,

They say that I am too cocky,
I say so what's your point,
They say you'll be doing drugs next,
I say no just a joint,

They say it is no smoking,
I say you got a light,

They say we know the answers,
I say they may be right,

They say watch your diet,
I say I already am,

They say I'll die from cancer,
I say that is my plan,

They say I should stop drinking,
I say I need a beer,

They say whatever they want to,
‘Cos what I say they never hear.

Pete Goodwin

I am a poet that shys away from the academic side of poetry, because it is more important to have the right feeling in a poem than to write the correct amount of syllables.I have written over 500 poems on absolutely every subject, and have been challenged to write about anything that people think is impossible.I write to get my head and my thoughts straight, and sometimes to clear up other peoples opinions so i can be more tolerant towards that.I am sure almost everyone on here writes for themselves first, and are then happy when other people like or agree with their point...I am no exception! To those out there that are unsure of what they write....NO POEM IS BAD...as long as it is from your heartPeter J Goodwin more…
