Their Own Demise

They laugh at their own faults
Fools! So blinded by their own stupidity
They outcast, reject, and shun those
Who are of higher intelligence
Who are of a higher goal
Who are on the path less taken by

Animals, clawing and tearing
Berating, screaming
Laughing, playing
Away from the truth
A collapsing building
A sinking ship
A fuse doused in gasoline

Soon, the future is bright
Grand, a gleaming light
They fool themselves into thinking they're right
They go down a dirt road, running towards their end with all their might

Only such a short time
And yet so far
The seeds, planted then
Are now growing, taking place

You work tenfold
Get a little bit ahead
They sleaze back
Just a little bit behind

But it's a growing hole
Soon, you will grow far
Soon, they will fall back
Way back, become used
Helpless, degenerative

And call for our help
Shout names, obsceities
"Sexist!" "Racist!" "Bigot!"
"Greedy!" "Thief!"
But we know the truth
Only that human cause
Causing us to go father
Come so far along

To help them
They become helpless
We achieved
They failed

Joseph Shofner

I'm 17, soon to turn 18 this Summer. I'm going to college to become a Geologist this Summer & following Fall. I like writing poems, but I've somewhat stopped in the past month or so. But in the time I did write (For about 6 months - 1 year) I wrote several hundred, most of which I "fixed" by making them better. Most of my poems are about love, as love is a very important (but not prominent) thing in my life. I believe love is an expression of the best of things, and poetry is an expression of love, so with poetry I express my love (Since I can't in other ways) I'll try to publish a poem a day (Maybe more, as I have them written down, but have to re-type them all when publishing them onto here) Also I'm working on a booklet of around 30-50 of my best poems re-mastered to try & win a girl I like over. I don't know who she is, as the school year is about over, but I'm sure I'll meet someone at college who appreciates it as much as I do. Any questions/ want to talk message me at joealexshof@yahoo.com more…
