The Wind Blows

The wind blows across the dusty lot...
There are no sounds outside...
The children are not laughing,
The birds are not chirping...
Even the wind blows quietly across the dusty lot...

Tiny sandstorms flail in the parking lot...
Pocket sized dust devils trying to topple mountains,
Scream with all of the impotent anger it can muster...
With strength enough to stir only leaves...
The wind blows quietly across the dusty lot...

Playgrounds lay bare... abandoned...
Here, children once roamed in flocks...
Frolicking with shouts of delights from the day's play...
Now it is the winds playground...
For only the wind blows quietly across the dusty lot.

All of the animals have long ago forsaken this place of ours...
They need sun and warmth to survive...
And the sun no longer stops by to send its regards...
Darkness would be utterly alone here...
If it wasn't for the wind blowing quietly across the dusty lot...
