The Three of Them, The Three of Them

My heart was heavy and filled with pain
Tears flowed down my cheeks free as the rain
I waited in awe as time went slowly by
Counting the days until I no longer would cry
Thinking of ways to erase the past
Wondering how long this nightmare would last
Taking the time to look around
Aware that there was not even one sound
What would I do? What could I do?
Nothing seem to change that which was true
Feeling the lumps as they rose in my throat
All that was left was a ray of hope
Tears dried up as I began to pray
Shadows appeared and headed my way.
Grandchildren's faces wide with a grin
The three of them, the three of them
