The Summer Thief
When you walk with me
Along this leaf-strewn city path,
I take shallow little breaths,
A still tongue behind pursed lips.
Your eyes flutter from time to time
Before they roll into the back of your head:
Two slits the colour of our brittle Autumn sky.
I am numb to my own footfall,
Yours I barely detect
As we haunt the barrows
In search of our misplaced summer.
