The River

the river

 on the morning we're born
we take our place in our boat
 and for our first years
 we're content to just float

 these early days
 they feel like a dream
 the water is calm
 our lives are serene

 but as you get older
 you grow discontent
 the manner is wary
 your patience is spent

 the journey seems random
 full of bend after bend
 where does it take us?
 when will it end?

but there's no use in taking
 the tiller it seems
because the river will take us
 where ever it needs

 just try to let go
 and enjoy the view
 and take care of those
 who travel with you

 and on the day
when you at last come to shore
 you'll finally know
what the whole trip was for

 the boat is so worn
 its falling apart
so you board a new boat
 for the next journey's start

 just take comfort in knowing
no matter what you go through
 the river will be there
 to take care of you
