The red barn door

The wild call of the rooster,
sending farmers out to their fields
The sun's rays have barely touched the day
and beads of sweat are already stringing
A necklace around sun-soaked necks
Leather hands and tangled hair
shoulders hunched in labor's bear
Animal prints print in the dirt, kicking
up dusty clouds in the air, such heavy breaths
She closes her eyes to a sudden country breeze
blowing in through the red barn door
Breathing in sweetly and sighs:
"this is what I live for,"
as she smiles at affection I couldn't understand.
