The Reaper and the Angel

The Reaper stands above me clad
in black, to match his sunken eyes
clasping a whip, he turns me now
away, giving him his target.

The leather rips my flesh apart
still there is no sign of stopping
I do not count, I simply wait
'til he deems his satisfaction.

I hear it drop and I may turn
to the Angel now standing there
in the space the Reaper has been
I cannot speak, I hang my head.

The Angel, he now takes my hand
to help me up and clean my wounds
"Thank you", I say with gratitude
knowing the Angel may morph again.
