The Purpose Of Poetry
If poetry has a purpose, it’s
To feel the wonder of the world
And of ourselves: think passionately,
Speak beautifully, sing joyously,
Throw over earth a veil of delight
And speak for all of us the things
That matter, say the things that we
Would say, if only we could say them,
Exalt the spirit, bring the soul
To greatness, bring greatness to the soul.
