The Poet Knows

The Poet knows

Of the grace of quiet nights
            When the moonlight beckons
            Remembrance of life before
            Turmoil and acrimony turned
            Neighbors and drove civility cold.

Of the beauty of the simple
Dawn, when the calm water ripples
From the gentle dap of a big toe
Sending waves and waves of circles
           Refracting light, breaking the reflections

Of the moment of discovery
           The frightening joy
When your heart explodes from sudden
Laughter and death would be a gentle
Release from the nerves, the anxiety

Oh, the wonder…
