The Poem Made Rings
The poem sat on the frayed shades of carpet,
words quietly watched wild-fire patterns swirl
as raspy breath escaped from the window
to watch blue-green shades of soft earthy life.
The poem drank sweet cider so heartily,
in between the endless cups of sugar
that flavoured dark tea-stained tepid water;
flowing from the cup of a dry mouth cracked.
The poem made rings: smoked fine tobacco strings
as fat fingers collected gray-ash thoughts
which blew poetry to some other day,
inside tomorrow - a smiling dawned look.
