The Perfect Best Friend

For forty-two years Judy and I have been best friends
We walked through the fire, we stood in the rain
At the end of it all we both forgave the pain
That's what happens when foraging a true kinship
At ten years of age
We both knew we could do it
Both determined with wills of iron
Both opinionated and head strong
There was always true respect for each other
That's what kept our bond for so long
No one has ever known me better than she
In my eyes, through my Soul
She could always see me
I do not know if soul mate was meant for best friends but
She was definitely mine, our lives always intertwined
I always knew who she was and
Where she was in life
We would fight and definitely disagree but
With love and trust, no one has ever loved her more than me
I could always feel when she needed me
She could feel when I needed her
I could hear in her voice while talking on the phone
From me she needed a positive tone
She could look into my eyes and see the pain of disguise as
I would try to hide the pain I felt deep inside
She would wrap me in her arms like a
Warm, comforting blanket
She would tell me she loved me and
Patiently talk to me
Judy was the kind of friend
I knew would always be there for me
She could look into my Spirit and
Help me hear it with a laugh
Sometimes she would intervene and
Physically move me from a pain filled path
We knew each other's weaknesses
We knew each other's strengths
We knew each other's secrets
At times we have forgotten more than we could remember
So much can be learned about each other in, forth-two years
Memories floating through my mind like a river
Washing softly through all the debris
Only vividly remembering the closeness shared by
My best friend and me
Through all the years we have always
Calmed each other's fears
We have been each other's sounding boards
Sometimes being a conscious with a grin
That, to us both was always
The better part of being a really good friend
We leaned on each other and
Never held back
Both being truth seekers
That was just part of the package!
We cried, laughed and made plans for the future
Things we will unfortunately never fulfill
The first thought that came to mind was
God, please do not take my friend!
I reveled in her successes, her family, her loves, her other friends
I have watched her grow and evolve into
The woman we knew throughout the years
Am I saying she is perfect?
Of course not, that would be a lie but
For forty-two years Judy has been
The perfect best friend in my eyes!
