The Metro

Beckoning light at the end of the tunnel
drifting eyes from afar
search me from time to time
I can not decide if I like riding
in the scenery of day
or resting my head against the window
in the darkness of descending lights
every so often I sing the words
"riding on the metro"
because that is all I remember from the song
there is not a lot of conversation
among passengers as we float away
perhaps it is a break in order to start anew
the people sitting alone
do the most empirical studies
comparing and contrasting tourists and
residents, republicans and democrats
the doors slide open on the right
the song is still running its course,
so I sing it to her as we walk away
