The Man in the Stocks - free verse

In an
Old country town
Those folks
They would frown
On villains
Cut-throats and thieves
So
The man
Who picked locks
Was put
In the stocks
He was
There for a night
And a day
He wasn't amused
But
Was sorely abused
By all
Who came by his way
A tramp
Pinched his clothes
A dog
Licked his nose
Passers by
Taunted him tickling
His toes
He was
Pelted with eggs
Till they
Ran down his legs
And the dogs
Licked him cleaner
Than clean
Then
The very next day
A crowd
Came his way
To watch
And admire the scene
Justice was done
But
For him not much fun
And his
Lock-picking days
They
Were finally done.
