The love I can't let go

Why do I continue to let myself feel like this?,
Why aren't memories of him real so I dont have to just reminisce?
What did I ever do to you?,
The guard I would of put up so long ago if I only knew.
I really thought that our love was real,
I don't know bout you but I think that it is still.
I just wasn't ready for all that went into play,
When I pulled in your driveway & parked that day.
That's not the Russell I gave my heart to,
I was in so much shock, I didn't know what to do.
I just looked you in your eyes,
They were dark & seemed like everything we ever had was lies.
I just took all the pain,
As I watched you do what you did without feeling any shame.
How can you put your hands on the one you say you love?,
Now I could understand a every now and then push or shove.
But you strait up busted my grill,
It shocked me so much I didn't know how I was supposed to deal.
But hit after hit I started getting numb,
As I tasted the blood coming from my gum.
I thought to myself that this couldn't be real,
Until I got into my explorer & the pain I started to feel.
All I wanted to do was get to a safe place,
I knew I needed help as I felt the blood run down my face.
