The Last Night of The year  (second writing)

It suddenly has happened, the year has made it's run,
This last night comes so quietly, as darkness steals the sun

Colors of the timeline start swirling quickly past
Mostly images of you, the frames are moving fast
My minds eye cannot grasp them, like dreams they disappear
Events are silver lightning, this last night of the year

Afraid that time might take you, I try to calm my fear
I pray to halt time's movement, but no one seems to hear
So I watch as you lie sleeping, we've been given one more day
The night is still and peaceful, my fear is kept at bay

Caught up in a whirlwind of thoughts so sweet and dear
I gather them close to my heart, this last night of the year

Relentlessly it presses on to take us all someday
Time...
it gives us memories, and time takes them away
But in a sudden moment, it all becomes so clear
I thank God for life's priveledge
this last night of the year

Ellen Eaton

Writing thoughts into poetry, what a wonderful way to keep thoughts and events from flitting away. As a jewelry designer and long time antique jewelry dealer, poetry gives me a moment to pause from all of that, which, though tremendously fun and rewarding, can overtake everything. Sitting back for a moment to write about my life in poetry form keeps things in perspective. And especially now, as I lost my beloved husband so recently. He was my heart, my soul, my greatest love and my best friend. Everything I did was magic in his eyes. I've lost my most loyal fan. But I'll catch up with him soon enough, what a reunion that will be! more…
