The Human Condition

I read daily of poets lamenting the loss of love
They took for granted the feelings of a cooing dove
It was the taste of a one night temptation they could not reject
And now lament in guilt for the dove they could not protect

They had a heart in hand a forever love keeper
Traded it for a slow dance with the grim reaper
And each screams sorrow and for now they can see
But around them dances the devil with such glee

The poets beg for another chance for their lesson is learned
The broken hearted say no as indeed they were spurned
The human condition has been spoken of for centuries long
Again and again it sings its heart broken song
