The Gift

With a sweep of his hand, the gift was
unveiled.

It's corners were crafted with the care of whispers
in his ear and fingers swept across his
inner arm that brought forth joyous bumps.

Upon first sight it struck her that his
ambition far exceeded his talent as a
carpenter.

Still, she loved it. She loved him.

Then suddenly she remembered the squabbles
about the ornate chest found among the white of
Dover that he insisted was beyond their means.

She remembered how he seemed to uncaringly
dismiss her simple pleasure and how small and
seperated it made her heart.

Maybe he has a future in acting, she mused,
as he could indeed afford her this pleasure and,
more, to fuse his mind, body, spirt, and heart
to the deep brown of it's glorious shape.
