The First Stone

I watch in horror
as the first stone
makes its bloody contact.
I watch in horror
a volley of others,
inward anger turned outward.
I watch in horror.
Crumpled, crying on the concrete,
another victim of another's voice.
I watch in horror
writhing in wretched revulsion,
drawn to death in others.
I watch in horror.
I look to see
whose sinful hand cast that first stone?
I watch in horror.
It is my own.
